Centaurus A is the closest example of a merging galaxy to our Milky Way. This monochromatic image is a 150-min exposure showing not only faint features of this distant galaxy, but also dust clouds from our own Milky Way that shimmer in the light of nearby stars. (Photo: RSAA/SkyMapper)
